Google Business is a perfect starting point for a new business. The best thing about it is that it’s free. You can get your business found on Google search, and anyone can find it.
If you need help creating a Google Business profile, watch my free Google Business workshop here.
I want to share how to attract more local customers once your listing is created and verified.
Tip #1: Fill in as much detail as possible.
The business details section has several boxes to fill in and describe your business. You should enter in as much information as you can, Giving Google all the things to know about you. A bonus tip is to consider your keywords when filling in these boxes, including terms your customers would search into Google to find you. The clearer you are with Google, the better you will be found.
Tip #2: Expand your geographic reach.
Everyone must enter an address when creating the listing, but not all businesses need to show it. You should hide your address if you don’t have an office or space to meet customers. Alternatively, you can enter up to 20 towns, cities, states, or countries to be considered your Service Areas. This is the opportunity to be found “locally” in these areas.
Tip #3: Stay active on your listing.
There are many ways you can be active on the Google Business profile. However, you cannot schedule this activity; it is all manually done. You should upload 1-3 photos to your listing every month or more often; before uploading the photos, you should rename the photo. Google doesn’t see the actual image, only the photo's name. Format it like this: “keyword - Your Business Name.”
Additionally, you should post an update or post on your listing every week. This can be very much like your social media post content. You can upload a photo (rename first), write a description, and choose a call to action button with a link.
Lastly, you should always respond to the new reviews you receive. This shows your commitment and appreciation to those customers who take the time to write a review. You can set up notifications to let you know when someone writes a review. In your response, be specific to the customer about what they experienced with you. A bonus tip for you is to include a keyword in your response. Anytime a user's keyword is seen on Google, it is bolded.
Using Google Business is very simple, but if you need more information, I have created a 2.5-hour course where you can learn everything from creating to verifying to optimizing your Google Business profile. Let me guide you to new customers on Google. Check out the course here.
